Topical soil or stain repellent finishes are are prone to wear down over time due to abrasion and regular cleaning. Generally they will last up to 5 washes or 3 years which ever comes first. There are specialised third-party finishing providers that can reapply the soil or stain repellent finish in situ if required. Topical finishes when applied form a molecular barrier around each fibre thereby reducing the tension of the fibre which helps the fabric to repell liquids, dust and soil. Spill simply bead up and roll off and any residue can be wiped away or blotted with a clean cloth.
Scotch-guard and Teflon are two well-known soil and stain repellent finishes. On fabrics advertised as being soil or stain repellent, the care labels should indicate what repellent finish has been applied.
Nanotex is a leading fabric innovation company providing nanotechnology-based textile enhancements, purchased by Crypton Inc in 2013. Nanotex spill and stain resistant formulations use nanotechnology to transform the fabric, permanently bonding with individual fibres to ensure the aggressive spill and stain resistance qualities of a fabric lasts the life of the fabric.
In the first instance the manufacturers instructions should be followed. For fabric purchases they will be listed as part of the fabric specification advertised. For third-party applied topical soil or stain repellent treatments, the third party should provide information specific to their treatment. For manufactured furniture or window treatment products, the care label should be consulted for either instructions or a care code reference which can be referenced for specific cleaning and spot cleaning instructions.

Free match wallpaper also goes by the names ‘Open Match’, ‘No Match’, ‘No Repeat’ and ‘Random Match’. This type of wallpaper either doesn’t have a repeating pattern or doesn’t have any design elements that need to be matched at the seams.
Straight match wallpaper has design elements that cross the edges of the wallpaper sheets and need to be matched up. When hanging this type of wallpaper, it is best to lay it out on the floor beforehand. You will notice that each strip of wallpaper will be cut to look exactly the same.
Offset match’ or ‘drop match’ wallpapers have design elements that cross the edges of the wallpaper strips and need to be lined up. However, across the wall, these design elements might be bigger or made to look less regularly patterned. When you put the puzzle together on the floor before hanging it, you will notice that each strip does not look the same and you will need to cut off large pieces in order to align the design elements. 'Half drop' repeats will be identical every other strip whereas 'multiple drop' repeat wallpapers won't repeat for three strips or more! Offset match wallpaper is harder to hang and produces the most waste – but it sure does look amazing!
